California State Assemblymember Atkins Honored At PPTA's Business Forum
ANNAPOLIS, MD - The Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) honored California State Assemblymember Toni Atkins (D) of San Diego as State Legislator of the Year for 2011-2012.
Assemblymember Atkins received the award at the 2011 PPTA Source Business Forum taking place earlier this week in San Diego, California.
"This year, Assemblymember Atkins sponsored the Medi-Cal Clinical Laboratory and Laboratory Services Act, which allows low income individuals to receive certain health care services," said Joshua Penrod, PPTA's vice president of Source. In addition, Assemblymember Atkins works within the legislature on initiatives to help patients have access to lifesaving therapies.
Additionally, according to Penrod, Assemblymember Atkins works tirelessly in her community to promote scientific innovation in San Diego, one of the largest biotechnology communities in the nation. "Assemblymember Atkins is helping to ensure that her state remains a globally recognized center for cutting edge biotechnology initiatives."
The PPTA award was established to honor public servants such as Assemblymember Atkins for their leadership and commitment to helping to advance the availability and access to safe and effective medicines and promoting the public's health and well-being.
