The first half of 2026 marked significant progress for the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) as the organization continued advancing policies and initiatives that support patient access to plasma-derived medicines and strengthen the global plasma ecosystem.
In North America, PPTA led advocacy efforts on Most Favored Nation (MFN) pricing proposals, engaging policymakers, regulators, and patient organizations to raise awareness of the potential impact on patients who rely on plasma-derived medicines. The Association also expanded congressional outreach through its "26 in '26" Fly-In and achieved meaningful progress on plasma-related legislation in California.
Across Europe, PPTA played an active role in discussions surrounding the EU Critical Medicines Act, Biotech Act, and stockpiling policies. One of the year's most significant achievements was helping secure the continued exemption of plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) from proposed pharmaceutical rebate increases in Germany, supporting patient access to critical therapies.
PPTA also expanded its global engagement through stakeholder meetings in India and increased visibility through media outreach, policy publications, and record attendance at the International Plasma Protein Congress (IPPC) 2026.
On the regulatory front, PPTA continued collaboration with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), European Medicines Agency (EMA), European Directorate for the Quality of Medicines & HealthCare (EDQM), and other key stakeholders to advance patient access, scientific standards, and supply resilience. Major accomplishments included launching the Cohort of Repeat Donor Experiences (CORE) pilot study, supporting efforts to improve access to immunoglobulin therapies for patients with secondary immunodeficiency, and contributing industry expertise to important regulatory consultations.
As PPTA looks ahead to the second half of 2026, the Association remains focused on strengthening partnerships, advancing evidence-based policies, and ensuring patients around the world have continued access to lifesaving plasma-derived medicines.
