Milan, Italy – 30/04/2026 – The International Plasma Protein Congress (IPPC), the premier event for the plasma sector in Europe and hosted by the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), has concluded in Milan on a high note.
The late April event marked record-breaking attendance and delivered a dynamic program that showcased timely, science-driven, and relevant policy discussions that resonate with stakeholders across the global plasma community. This year’s Congress welcomed more than 350 – a record high – of participants from across academia, industry, the patient community, government and beyond.
“The wide interest in IPPC and interesting discussions on stage reflected the growing global interest in lifesaving plasma-derived medicines and their growing applications across health care,” said Marilena Vrana, Vice President of Public Affairs and EU Operations at PPTA. “As the Congress continues to grow, it will remain a model of commitment in providing a premier platform for knowledge exchange, innovation, and global collaboration for all actors across the plasma and plasma-derived medicines ecosystem.”
A major highlight of the event were the keynote addresses, which included Nikolaj Siersbaek, managing economist at Copenhagen Economics, who presented new economic research on the impact of plasma-derived therapies in Europe, highlighting their value to health care systems and the broader economy while outlining policy pathways to ensure a sustainable supply. The next day, a keynote by David Osgathorp set the tone by drawing parallels between Formula 1 performance and professional excellence, emphasizing resilience, focus, and decision-making under pressure.
The Congress featured dynamic discussions on the resilience of EU critical medicine supply chains in a shifting geopolitical landscape, improving patient access to plasma-derived medicinal products, exploring barriers such as pricing, reimbursement, and supply fragility, alongside strategies to ensure equitable access across Europe. The program also explored next-generation leadership, highlighting emerging voices shaping the plasma sector. In parallel, scientific discussions showcased innovation in plasma-derived therapies and how these advances translate into tangible patient benefits.
The event also served as a key moment to promote PPTA’s “Share Your Voice” global patient survey, which explores awareness of plasma-derived medicines and understanding of plasma donation, helping to inform future advocacy and education efforts. The exhibition floor saw strong participation, with leading organizations showcasing cutting-edge technologies and fostering valuable partnerships between researchers and industry leaders.
IPPC concluded with forward-looking conversations on donor health and safety, as well as the sustainability and strategic importance of Europe’s plasma collection systems in an evolving regulatory and global context.
Barcelona will host the next IPPC on 20-21 April2027. It will build on this year’s momentum to further strengthen the international plasma community. For more information, visit pptaglobal.org/ippc.
