A new report (click here to read) highlights how more than 350 stakeholders from across the plasma community gathered in Milan, Italy, on 28-29 April for the International Plasma Protein Congress (IPPC), making IPPC 2026 the largest Congress in the event's two-plus decade history.

Hosted by the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA), the Congress brought together industry leaders, policymakers, patient advocates, researchers, healthcare professionals, and government representatives to discuss the future of plasma-derived medicines and the global plasma ecosystem.

Centered around the theme "Resilience, Reach & Responsibility: Building a High-Performing, Patient-Centric Plasma Ecosystem," this year's Congress explored the challenges and opportunities facing the plasma sector as clinical need for plasma-derived medicinal products (PDMPs) continues to grow worldwide. Discussions focused on strengthening supply chain resilience, improving patient access, advancing plasma collection, and ensuring sustainable policies that support both donors and patients.

Throughout the two-day program, speakers examined the evolving European policy landscape, the future of critical medicines supply chains, innovation in plasma-derived therapies, and strategies to secure a sustainable plasma supply for patients. Sessions highlighted the importance of collaboration across industry, government, patient organizations, and healthcare systems to address growing clinical need and strengthen access to lifesaving therapies.

Patient perspectives remained central to the Congress. Representatives from patient organizations participated in panel discussions and shared firsthand experiences about the impact of plasma-derived medicines on their lives and communities. These conversations reinforced the importance of ensuring that policies and industry initiatives remain focused on improving patient outcomes and access to treatment.

IPPC 2026 also featured keynote presentations that encouraged attendees to think differently about leadership, resilience, and performance. Experts from outside the plasma sector shared insights on navigating uncertainty, driving innovation, and building high-performing organizations in a rapidly changing environment.

The Congress concluded with a renewed commitment to collaboration across the global plasma community. As policymakers, patient advocates, industry leaders, and healthcare stakeholders continue working toward shared goals, the discussions and connections formed at IPPC 2026 will help shape the future of plasma-derived medicines and strengthen access for patients around the world.

PPTA thanks all attendees, speakers, sponsors, exhibitors, and partners who contributed to the success of IPPC 2026 and helped make this year's Congress a record-breaking event. We look forward to continuing these important conversations and welcoming the global plasma community to IPPC 2027 in Barcelona.
