PPTA Announces Changes to Global Executive Board and European Board Leadership

Washington, D.C. — May 27, 2026 —The Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) today announced new representatives to its Global Executive Board of Directors (GEB) and EU Board of Directors, reflecting the organization’s continued commitment to advancing collaboration among the Association’s members and across the plasma sector.

David Bell, Chief Corporate Development Officer at Grifols, has returned to serve once again as Chairman of the PPTA Global Executive Board. Bell brings extensive leadership experience, sector knowledge, and deep industry expertise to the role, having previously served in key leadership positions within both PPTA (including previously leading the GEB from 2016 to 2019) and the broader plasma community.

“It is an honor to again be named Chairman of the PPTA Global Executive Board. I look forward to contributing to PPTA’s leadership in promoting innovation, safety and cooperation across the global plasma community — strengthening the vital connection from donors to patients and ensuring lifesaving plasma-derived medicines reach those who need them worldwide,” said Bell.

PPTA also announced the appointment of Ramy Riad, President of Takeda’s Plasma-Derived Therapies Business Unit, to the Global Executive Board. Riad joins the GEB at a pivotal time for the industry as PPTA continues to support policies and initiatives that strengthen patient access, plasma donation systems, and global supply resilience.

“I’m honored to join the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association Global Executive Board. Together with leaders across our industry — and in gratitude to plasma donors — I look forward to working toward a more resilient plasma ecosystem, encouraging safe plasma donation, sustainable supply, and reliable access for patients who depend on plasma-derived therapies,” said Riad.

In Europe, Santi González Orti, Vice President of Corporate International Affairs at Grifols has been named EU Board Chair after several years of already serving on the Board, while Luana Banu, Head of Global Public Affairs and Patient Advocacy, Plasma-Derived Therapies, Takeda has joined the EU Board of Directors for the first time. Both play a significant role contributing to the Board’s leadership and representation across the region. The EU Board plays a critical role in shaping and advancing the association’s strategic priorities across Europe, helping to drive regional policy engagement, stakeholder collaboration, and patient access initiatives.

“It is a great honor to take on the role of Chair of the PPTA EU Board at a time when strengthening Europe’s plasma ecosystem is more important than ever. With demand for plasma-derived therapies — recognized as critical medicines — continuing to grow, it is essential to advance supportive policies, promote sustainable donation practices and reinforce security of supply, while recognizing the complementary roles of public, private, and third-sector organizations in plasma collection,” said González Orti. We remain committed to ensuring patients across Europe have reliable and timely access to lifesaving treatments.”

In reflection upon joining the Board, Banu stated that: “It is a privilege to join the EU Board and support the development of a strong plasma ecosystem in Europe — one that places patient need, donor protection and meaningful industry partnership at the center of progress.”

PPTA expresses its sincere appreciation to Giles Platford of Takeda for his dedicated service and leadership while serving as the immediate past Chair of the Global Executive Board. During his tenure, Platford helped guide the organization through a period of transformation and evolving global healthcare challenges, championing collaboration across the plasma therapeutics industry.

“David Bell is a highly respected leader within the global plasma therapeutics community, and we are thrilled to welcome him back as Chair of the Global Executive Board,” said Anita Brikman, President and CEO of PPTA. “His experience, strategic vision, and longstanding commitment to advancing patient access and strengthening the global plasma ecosystem make him exceptionally well positioned to lead PPTA at this important moment for our industry. We are also pleased to welcome Ramy, Santi, and Luana to their new leadership roles. Their expertise will help further advance PPTA’s mission on behalf of patients worldwide.”
